Making Edibles with Distillate

There are many ways to use distillate as an edible. The great thing about using distillate as an edible is that it doesn’t need to be cooked with butter to extract the THC since it’s already activated.

You can add distillate to:

You simply add it to your desired food or drink and enjoy it, making it an excellent option for those who want to make their own edibles without going through the hassle of cooking with cannabis.

Cooking with cannabis at Dakota Herb

MARTHA STEWART’S “TO-DIE-FOR” BROWNIES

BROWNIE INGREDIENTS:
  • 4 Large eggs
  • ⅔ C. Cannabis-infused oil
  • 2 C. Sugar
  • 1 ½ C. All-purpose flour
  • 3 Tbsp. Cocoa powder
  • 1 Tsp. Baking powder
  • ½ Tsp. Salt
  • 1 C. Chopped pecans

Martha Louise Stewart’s Chocolate Icing (recipe below)

BROWNIE DIRECTIONS:
  1. Preheat oven to 350˚F. Butter a 9” x 13” baking pan; set aside.
  2. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat eggs on low speed. Add cannaoil and sugar, beating for 10 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile, sift together flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add egg mixture, beating just until combined. Stir in pecans and vanilla.
  4. Pour batter into the prepared baking dish. Bake until edges just start to pull away from the pan, about 35 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool. Spread icing over brownies; allow to set before serving.
ICING INGREDIENTS:
  • 1 Large egg
  • 2 ½ C. Confectioners’ sugar
  • 2 tsp. Cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp. Pure vanilla extract
  • 2 Tbsp butter, melted (use cannabutter if greater potency is desired)
ICING DIRECTIONS:
  1. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment,
  2. beat egg with 1 cup sugar on low speed.
  3. With the mixer running, add 1/2 cup sugar and cocoa into the egg mixture; mix well.
  4. Add remaining 1 cup sugar, vanilla, and butter; beat to combine.

Note:The amount of cannabis oil specified in this recipe is a very loose suggestion; the actual amount you use should be modified based on the strength of your cannabis oil and the potency you desire.

How to make cannabis brownies with Dakota Herb

Distillate-infused cheese crackers

CRACKER INGREDIENTS:
  • 1 cup of shredded sharp cheddar cheese

  • ¼ cup of unsalted butter

  • 1 cup of all-purpose flour

  • ¼ teaspoon of salt

  • ¼ teaspoon of smoked paprika

  • Dash of cayenne pepper

  • 1 gram of distillate-infused oil or butter

Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 375℉ and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Combine the shredded cheese, softened butter, flour, salt, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper in a mixing bowl. Mix until the ingredients are well combined, and a dough starts to form.
  3. Add the distillate-infused oil or butter to the dough and mix them.
  4. Roll the dough into a ball and place it onto a lightly floured surface.
  5. Cut the dough into desired shapes with a knife.
  6. Transfer the shapes to the baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes.

Cannabis Infused Pancakes Recipe with Float Distillate

PANCAKE INGREDIENTS:

Makes ~ 12 pancakes | Around 12.5 mg THC per pancake

  • 150 mg of Float Distillate
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (spooned and leveled)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Optional: Fresh fruit, jam, syrup, whipped cream, and butter for toppings.

 

PANCAKE DIRECTIONS:
  1. Gather ingredients, preheat the oven & prepare the distillate.
    Preheat oven to 200 degrees. Have a baking sheet or heatproof platter ready to keep cooked pancakes warm in the oven.Place the distillate, still in the Dablicator, in a container of warm water to loosen it
  2. Mix dry ingredients.
    In a small bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Mix wet ingredients.
    In a medium bowl, whisk together milk, butter & egg.Carefully dispense 150 mg of cannabis distillate into the wet ingredient mixture. Whisk again to ensure the distillate is evenly distributed.
  4. Combine wet & dry ingredients.

    Fold the dry ingredients into the now-infused wet ingredients. Whisk until the mixture is just moistened. (Don’t overmix, a few small lumps are fine.)

  5. Heat skillet or griddle.

    Heat a large skillet (nonstick or cast-iron) or griddle over medium. Fold a sheet of paper towel in half and moisten with vegetable oil. Carefully rub the skillet with an oiled paper towel, coating the entire cooking surface.

  6. Spoon batter onto skillet or griddle.
    For each pancake, spoon 2 to 3 tablespoons of batter onto a skillet, using the back of the spoon to spread the batter into a round pancake shape (you should be able to fit 2 to 3 in a large skillet).
  7. Cook the first side.

    Cook until the surface of the pancakes starts to bubble and a few bubbles have burst (about 1 to 2 minutes).

  8. Flip pancakes.

    Flip carefully with a thin spatula and cook until golden brown on the underside (about 1 to 2 more minutes).

  9. Top as desired and enjoy!  

    This recipe should yield 12 pancakes with around 12.5 mg of THC each. Adjust the amount of distillate you use if you want a lighter (or stronger) dose.

    How to make cannabis pancakes.

    CANNABIS-INFUSED FUDGE

    FUDGE INGREDIENTS:
    • 2 cups – white sugar
    • 1 cup – heavy cream
    • 4oz. – 85% – 99% cocoa 
    • 2 tsp Vanilla Extract
    • 1gr. Cannabis Distillate

    The key to any fudge is ensuring the mixture achieves the proper temperature. For this recipe, you will need a candy thermometer to check the temperatures. If you do not have one, you can use the soft-ball method to check for proper consistency. I recommend a thermometer, this stuff can overheat pretty fast causing your fudge to become grainy.

    The soft ball stage you are looking for is 238 degrees F at sea level. You MUST adjust for altitude if you want the best results! First, find the temperature where water boils at your altitude. Subtract that from 212 to see your temperature variation. Subtract that variation from the 238 degrees to see what your altitude-specific soft ball stage temperature is.

    *Example: At my altitude, water boils at 197 degrees.
    212-197=15 – My temp variance is 15 degrees
    238-15=223
     – My soft ball stage temperature is 223 degrees
    Got it? Ok, let’s move on to the other important stuff.

    DOSAGE
    Cannabis distillate can contain upwards of 95% THC. Using this example, there will be approximately 950mg of THC per batch (there should be minimal loss from the cooking process). Use this information when deciding the potency of each dose. If you cut your fudge into 10 pieces, they will each contain approx. 95mg of THC. 20 @ 46mg, 40 @ 23mg, etc.

    Feel free to use this handy THC calculator for determining the dosage of your edibles graciously provided by Kind Meds, an Arizona-based medical marijuana dispensary that is “focused on cultivating top-quality medical cannabis flower and similar products to help patients overcome illness, pain, and to live happier.”

    FUDGE PROCESS:
    1. Combine the sugar and cream in a heavy saucepan and whisk until well blended.
      *Your saucepan should hold at least 4 times the volume of this mixture, it will rise to triple its size during cooking!
    2. Bring to a boil on medium-high heat stirring constantly until the mixture just begins to bubble. Once it starts to bubble, STOP STIRRING! Place the candy thermometer in the mixture avoiding contact with the pan.
    3. Let this mixture continue to boil unstirred until it reaches your pre-determined soft ball stage temperature and then immediately remove it from the heat. Let the mixture cool untouched until it reaches 130 degrees F.
    4. While that is cooling, place the chocolate into a double boiler and place over medium-low heat – don’t let the water boil. Stir with a rubber spatula until melted and smooth. If you don’t have a double boiler, you can use a metal or glass bowl set on top of a small saucepan of water.
    5. With the chocolate melted, add in the Cannabis Distillate and stir well to incorporate. Ideally, you should hold this chocolate/cannabis oil blend at about 90-95 degrees while the sugar/cream mixture is cooling.
    6. Once the cream/sugar has reached 130 degrees F, add the chocolate cannabis blend and the Vanilla extract. With a wooden spoon, start blending everything.
    7. Stir vigorously until the mixture becomes thick and dull, about 10-15 minutes. It will be hard to stir, I recommend having a friend around to help if you can’t do it. Alternatively, you could use a stand mixer with a paddle to do this. It takes only 3-4 minutes but the results aren’t quite the same as a hand-done batch. Still, a viable option.
    8. Line a 9×13 pan with wax paper or parchment paper. Spoon the mixture into the prepared pan, smooth out, and let cool on the counter for at least 2 hours.
    9. Score the top of the fudge with a knife to mark your desired number of portions.
    10. Place in refrigerator until completely chilled and firm.

    Once cooled, you can finish cutting your pieces, or simply snap them apart at the score lines. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. Can be frozen for longer-term storage.

    THC Distillate Gummies

    Ingredients
    • 1 ml THC Distillate
    • 1 Box Jell-O 6oz
    • 4 Packets Gelatin (28g)
    • 1/2 cup Water Cold
    • 1/4 cup Sugar
    • 2 tbsp Vegetable Glycerin
    • 12 drops LorAnn Oil Flavoring Optional
    Instructions
    • Combine Jell-O, Gelatin, water, and sugar in a small sauce pan, mix thoroughly. Cover and let sit to bloom, 10-20 minutes. It should turn mostly solid
    • Heat Saucepan on medium heat, stirring constantly. Stir until mix has completely dissolved, just before it starts to boil.
    • Remove from heat
    • Mix in THC distillate, Glycerin, and Flavoring (Optional)
    • Pour into molds. Put in fridge till the set.
    • Once they are set, remove from the fridge and place on cooling rack. Let cure 12 – 24 hours.
    • (Optional) Toss in sugar or Cirtric Acid (makes them sour) to prevent them from sticking together.
    Notes

    Can also replace the cold water with juice for additional flavoring. Might need a little more Glycerin, mix and add more if they do not look completely combined.
